Golden Torch Cactus
Trichocereus spachianus
Why you might like this plant:  Golden Torch is a flowering (white flowers 8” across) plant with amber thorns (taking on a “torch” feel when backlit by the setting sun).  One of only a handful of columnar type cactus that will not end up growing 20-40 feet high. With its multi-stemmed/clumping habit and slow growth (6” per year) Golden Torch looks exceptional in a decorative pot by the front door or on the patio. Flowers usually come in late spring/early summer and sometimes again in the fall.  Our experience is that it is hardy to the cold to the high teens.  Grow in full sun or partial shade, provide small amounts of water during the summer, and enjoy its beauty year round.
