Forest Lily

Veltheimia bracteata

If you are looking for something to spark conversation with your gardening friends, this may be the answer.
We discovered this unusual plant at a specialty grower about five years ago.
Because it takes a long time to get a mature plant, it costs more that average, everyday plants.
Forest Lily is a summer-deciduous (leaves die back during summer) bulb.
Native to South Africa it produces beautiful tubular flowers that last as long as a month. Flowers may be pale pink, orange pink or deep rose pink.
An excellent pot plant, Forest Lily grows easily in light-shade, shade, or indoors in bright, indirect light.
