landscape design – designers
John M. Harlow, Jr. has over 50 years of experience in the green industry. He has worked at Harlow’s since 1956 when his parents owned and operated Harlow Gardens; a business they started in 1939. Today John and twin brother Bill are co-owners, and John heads the Landscape Department. A multiple award-winning landscape designer, John especially enjoys the opportunity to work with people who want to remodel an existing landscape–a specialty many landscape designers avoid.
Clay Thompson came to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona but grew up in Santa Fe, NM. As early as the third grade, he remembers admiring the black on black design of potter Maria Martinez during a field trip to a Zuni pueblo where she lived at the time. As a landscape designer, the shapes and textures of Native American artwork continue to influence him. Clay and his wife Julie have one son and one daughter, and together they enjoy collecting artwork for their home. Clay is a gourmet chef and also stays busy cross-stitching, sewing, and building frames for his tapestries.
Kim Schwimmer was born in Chicago and moved to Tucson with his family at a very young age. He learned to enjoy gardening and credits his father for this deep appreciation. Kim immediately took to the plants and landscape of the desert Southwest. This eventually led to his career choice in landscape design, and he has been a full-time designer with Harlow’s since 1999. Kim loves to read and listen to good music. And when not spending time with his own two dogs, he has volunteered many hours over the years caring for other animals.
